In scientific theory, biology originates from the division of cells. In the mythical civilization, human beings were born out of the forbidden fruit of Adam and Eve. Human beings breed by biology and progress in civilization. In MOcA, we explored humans and civilization:
Colossal: larger than life-size
Herm: square pillar with a head on top
Kore: plural:korai. Greek for “girl” or “young woman”
Kouros: plural: kouroi. Greek for “youth” or “young man”
Maenad: mythical female figure, a wild follower of the god Dionysus
Meniscus: protective umbrella-hat, guarding statues against the elements
Metope: square panel high up on the side of a temple
Nike: Greek goddess of victory, usually shown with wings
Pediment: the triangular gable-end of a temple
Puteal: circular enclosure around a well, sometimes called a well-head
Satyr: mythical creature, half-goat and half-man
Stele: plural:stela’s. A marker stone, which may be decorated, often used to mark a grave
Stoa: long building with one side opening through a colonnade
Temenos: religious sanctuary or precinct
Titans: early Greek gods, predating the more familiar Olympians
