Legendary musician James Taylor is known to lay down the funk. Early influences on James’ musical taste came in the form of the film soundtracks of the 60s and 70s from composers like Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. James’ four-piece band, The James Taylor Quartet, can tear the roof off of a venue and that same feeling can be accomplished with minimal manipulation. James sees the composition process as capturing the spirit of a moment or place that listeners can then see in their heads.

Gud Jon are a trio of musical talent creating ‘neo choral’ music, formed from a life-long friendship. Icelandic lead vocalist Gudjon, and super-producers Henry Counsell and Richard John met at school aged 13 where they regularly performed covers together in musicals. As each branched off into different areas of music, they remained close friends and felt the time was right to officially create music together as Gud Jon in 2018.

Gudjon has been singing in choirs since the age of six. He credits his mother as one of his main influences and Freddie Mercury is his ultimate inspiration. His highly attuned voice graces the London Contemporary Voices, the Icelandic Choir of London, and he has sung backing vocals across various musicals.

When coming together to write their debut EP ‘Holmgang’, producer, arranger and composer Henry Counsell and multi-instrumentalist Richard John had the freedom to write in whichever direction they were feeling as Gudjon trusted and welcomed an open approach to collaboration. Gud Jon’s obsession with harmonies fused with electronica and ‘Nordic vibes’ makes them a totally unique alt-pop force.

Modern Orchestral: Epic

Born in Otaru, Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan, composer, Japanese Taiko Drummer, multi-percussionist, Shakuhachi player and singer Joji Hirota began his percussion and composition studies at Kyoto Arts University. His grounded mastery of percussion and traditional Japanese music and instruments are the trademark signature of his catalogue, sonically summoning his home.

In the 1980s, he founded the globetrotting group Joji Hirota and the Taiko Drummers which opened Live Earth in London. Joji acted as percussionist and co-composer for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Macbeth. He was awarded the Ambassador’s commendation award by the UK Japanese Embassy for his contribution to musical activity outside of Japan in recognition for his achievements in a three-decade long career.
